Conservation
We are experts in the repair and restoration of woodwork in old buildings. We specialise in undertaking projects that require repairs to historic joinery and have considerable experience in working in listed and other historic buildings. In particular, we specialise in repairing box sash windows. Below is a system we have in place for the restoration of your windows.
Our Step by Step breakdown:
- All areas are covered with dust sheets while work is being carried out.
- Staff beads and parting beads are removed and discarded.
- Upper and lower sashes are removed.
- All four sash cords are replaced, (sash pulleys are checked and returned to full working order or replaced).
- Both sashes are checked and mid-rails are re-aligned.
- Sash weights are checked and adjusted to balance sashes.
- All surfaces are treated and painted with white acrylic primer.
- On completion, all dust sheets are removed and the room fully vacuumed to a high standard.
We are not trying to make windows look new, but giving them their '100-year service'. After our work is completed, decorators are generally pleasantly surprised with the amount of preparation we have carried out, making their task easier.
